Ciné Acting

Professional Screen Acting for Young Performers

Ciné Acting is a specialised screen acting programme designed for young people who want to learn how to bring authentic characters to life, confidently, and professionally for the camera and big screen.

Created and led by Effrosyni Kokkori, a professional actor, director, and acting coach with 20 years of industry experience, Ciné Acting bridges the gap between classroom learning and real film practice. Students train using professional equipment, perform real scripts and practice industry-informed techniques in a focused and supportive environment.

This is not a general drama class, Ciné Acting focuses specifically on acting for camera.

What makes Ciné Acting different

Ciné Acting trains young performers in the skills required for contemporary film and television work. Students don’t just learn how to perform on camera, they learn how to give performances that feel natural and are truthful and confident - working  calmly and professionally within a filmed environment.

Training focuses on:

  • Acting for camera, understanding how subtlety, focus, and framing

  • shape performance

  • Maintaining truth within imagined circumstances, bringing honesty

  • and clarity to every moment

  • Responding rather than presenting, allowing performance to

  • emerge through interaction

  • Listening, reacting, and adjusting in real time, as scenes evolve

  • under direction

  • Developing a calm, professional relationship with the camera, so

  • focus and presence remain steady on set

Just as actors learn how to perform in front of an audience, they must also learn how to stay grounded and real in front of a camera. Ciné Acting supports students in building that confidence through repeated, guided on-camera practice. Alongside performance skills, students will also develop:

  • Feeling comfortable, focused and aware on set, working around crew and equipment,

  • Continuity and consistency across takes,

  • Voice clarity and vocal focus for screen,

  • An understanding of how technical choices affect performance.

Camera acting is inherently relational. Even when a character appears to be “alone”, they are usually responding to someone. Learning how to listen and respond naturally is central to screen performance, and this principle runs through the entire programme.

The Ciné Acting Programme

Ciné Acting is a complete screen acting training programme split into two progressive, connected stages. No prior screen acting training is required. The programme is suitable for beginners as well as students with prior acting experience.

Training begins with the Foundation Stage and continues into the Advanced Stage. Together, the two stages form a single, progressive training journey, moving from camera fundamentals to sustained scene work within a structured filmed environment.

The Foundation Stage focuses on developing core screen acting skills, camera

confidence, and on-set awareness, culminating in a professionally supported self-tape filmed within a structured screen acting environment.

The Advanced Stage builds on this work through deeper scene study and character

development, culminating in a professionally filmed duologue scene, created under

professional filming practice and edited for showreel use.

Ciné Acting is designed to be taken as a continuous programme, Foundation then straight to Advanced. Completing both Stages consecutively is recommended to gain the full benefit of the training. However, students may choose to split the Course and complete the Advanced Stage at a later date.

Foundation Stage

During the first six weeks, students lay the groundwork for confident, truthful scene performance. Students are introduced to acting for camera through practical, guided exercises that build comfort, focus, and awareness within a filmed environment. From the early sessions, they learn to work calmly with the camera, maintain concentration on set, and understand how performance and technique interact.

The Foundation Stage culminates in a professionally filmed duologue self-tape, with the student performing on camera and supported by a professional off-camera reader, following industry-standard casting practice. Self-tapes are now the primary way actors respond to casting calls for screen work, and students gain direct experience of how contemporary casting operates. Through this work, students develop the practical skills, experience, and understanding needed to prepare and record self-tapes independently and can

can confidently say, “I can act on camera, stay focused on set, and respond truthfully.

Advanced Stage

The Ciné Acting programme continues with the Advanced Stage, delivered over two further weeks, completing the training journey. Building on the practice developed in the Foundation Stage, training focuses on scene analysis, character development, and emotional and narrative continuity. Students refine their performance across multiple takes and angles while

working closely with a scene partner and responding to direction within a filmed environment.

The Advanced Stage culminates in a professionally filmed duologue scene, created under conditions that reflect professional film set practice, edited with a cinematic approach, and delivered ready for showreel use.

By the end of the Advanced Stage, students can say: “I can sustain a filmed scene with another actor, staying present, connected, and truthful on camera.”
